Disney’s Bob Eiger and Iranian jailed writers were honored by PEN America

PEN America has organized one of the first major indoor literary events in New York since the pandemic began, with hundreds of members meeting last week at the organization’s annual gala to honor writers, political dissidents and prominent figures.

After the virtual ceremony in 2020, attendees met at the venue that has hosted the gala for several years, the American Museum of Natural History.

The president of PEN, an organization that connects literature and human rights, Ayad Akhtar, told the audience that after 18 months on Zoom screens, a live meeting of writers and other artists and the gradual reopening of its offices PEN, can inspire others to “move forward”.
