Katerina Karizoni was born in Thessaloniki. She studied Economics at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and is now a Dr. of Economics. She has published 12 poetry collections and anthology of poetry by women poets of Thessaloniki. She has also written several children’s books, one of which (A thousand and one nights of the Balkans) won the first prize of the children’s book circle in 1991. Her first novel was published in 1997 and she has since published 8 other novels. Her plays have been staged by local and school theatrical and cultural groups. Poems and short stories of hers have been translated in languages of the Balkans and also in English, French, German and Polish. Poems of hers have been set to music and sung by well-known Greek singers. She cooperates with literary magazines, writing book reviews, essays and literary texts. In 2009 she was awarded the Avlea prize for the totality of her work. She is a member of the Thessaloniki Writers Society.
