Maria Koursi was born and studied in Athens. She has published 17 books. Her poems have been translated into French, English, Italian, Spanish and Polish. She is an editor of publications. For ten years she created a Literature Workshop in which she taught at the Lycée Léonin (Athens). She has represented Greece in international poetry festivals and conferences on literature. Her poems have been set to music by Kostas Livadas with Dimitra Galani as performer on the CD entitled “From Euripides to Maria Koursi”.

Her poems are taught at a university abroad and have been anthologized in many books and magazines in Greece and abroad. In collaboration with the National Research Centre for Humanities and Social Sciences “Demokritos”, she wrote the texts for the award-winning project “Cosmos: Cultural osmosis. Mythology and Art”.

In 2022 she was awarded by the magazine “Chartis” for her book for children “The Myth of King Erysichthon”. In 2023 she was awarded the Lambrou Porphyra Prize by the Academy of Athens for her book “Exodios Aeras”. She is a member of the Hellenic Authors’ Society.
