Alexis Stamatis was born in Athens. He studied Architecture at the NTUA and did postgraduate studies in Architecture and Film in London. He has written twenty-eight books. His novels have been translated into nine languages.

His first novel, The Seventh Elephant, was published in Great Britain. Bar Flaubert was published in Great Britain, France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Serbia and Bulgaria. American Fugue, won the American Academy of Arts International Literature Prize and was published in the US (Etruscan Press).

His first children’s book Alkis and the Labyrinth was honored with the first prize of the Children’s Book Cycle (IBBY). His theatrical  plays have been staged in theaters such as The National Theatre of Greece, Southbank Centre, Theatro Technis, Kefallinias Theater, Michael Cacoyannis Foundation and others. He is a columnist for the newspaper «To Vima». He teaches Creative Writing. His students have published 27 books.
